adidas knows how to make a United kit feel like United. This time it’s gone for something different, ditching the dark third kits of recent years for off-white, maroon and green. The result? One of their most striking kits, getting something new without losing their local roots.
The colour palette gives the shirt a completely different feel that what we’re used to. Off-white keeps things clean and neutral, while the deep maroon trim and dark green across the shoulders add a bit more bite. United and adidas have played with these colours before, but this feels like a fresh take.
The Lancashire rose pattern is where the shirt really starts to stand out. Worked into the fabric in tonal form, the roses take inspiration from the club’s home without turning it into a giant graphic. It’s a subtle nod to the region, but one that gives the kit plenty of character.
The centre of the shirt keeps things fresh too. The adidas logo, isolated Red Devil crest and sponsor are stacked vertically in maroon down the middle. It’s a clean setup we’re not used to seeing on a United shirt – one that offers a throwback feel but keeps a modern sleekness.
Then there’s the Red Devil. The use of a standalone devil instead of the full United crest puts the club’s icon front and centre. It’s a bold move, but the maroon treatment keeps it looking part of the shirt rather than forced onto it.
If you’re after the full kit you’ve got two choices: the matching off-white shorts for a traditional head-to-toe finish, or the dark green option if you want more contrast. Off-white socks complete the strip, with dark green bands up top and maroon adidas branding bringing the colours back together.
What makes this third kit work is that it doesn’t try too hard. There’s no need for a massive graphic or a completely out-there design. Instead, adidas has taken some of the details that make United and the region around it what they are, then built a kit around them.
This is adidas doing what it does best with United: familiar ideas with a fresh spin. The Lancashire rose gives it identity. The maroon and green give it an edge. The off-white makes it feel different without losing United class.
A proper United kit.
