School PE / Gym Bags FAQs
A drawstring PE bag should have enough room for a T-shirt, shorts, socks, trainers and a water bottle. If your child also carries football boots, a towel or swimming kit, check the bag dimensions or choose a larger gym bag or small backpack.
Most school PE bags are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. They can protect your kid’s kit from light rain or damp changing-room floors, but water may still enter through the drawstring opening. Put wet swimming kit or muddy clothing inside a separate waterproof bag or liner.
Look for strong drawcords, reinforced corners, securely stitched seams and durable, easy-to-clean fabric. A reinforced or coated base helps protect the bag on damp changing-room floors too. Check the individual product description for its materials and features.
A drawstring PE bag is lightweight, easy to pack and folds away when it’s not being used. A small backpack may be more comfortable for heavier items such as football boots, a towel and a full water bottle. The right choice depends on how much kit your child needs to carry.
Many school PE bags can hold children’s football boots, shin pads and a basic PE kit, but capacity varies by bag size and shoe size. Check the dimensions before buying. A full-size football will usually need to be carried separately.
Soft-sided drawstring PE bags can be folded or compressed, making them easier to fit inside a school locker. Bags with rigid bases or bulky compartments may take up more room. Compare the bag dimensions with the available locker space if storage is limited.
Remove wet or dirty clothing as soon as possible and leave the bag open to air after each use. Wipe it with mild soapy water and let it dry completely. Check the care label before machine washing, and don’t tumble dry it unless the manufacturer says you can.
Some PE bags have a name label or identification panel. You can also use an iron-on or sew-in name label, or write on the care label with a suitable fabric marker. Some schools only allow plain PE bags, so check the uniform policy before choosing a bright colour or team design.
