Some collaborations land once and disappear. Others turn into something you actually build on. Barcelona and the Kobe Bryant brand have gone with the second option, and the 26/27 away kit is the proof.
This isn't a one-off nostalgia play. It's chapter two of a partnership that started last season, and this time round it feels like the pairing has properly found its footing.
The idea behind it is simple enough to say and much harder to live up to: confidence earned through hard work, conviction, and the refusal to settle for wherever you've already got to. It's the kind of statement that could sound like empty marketing copy on paper, except it happens to describe both parties with genuine accuracy. Barcelona's competitive identity and Kobe's entire legacy were always going to speak the same language. This shirt is just the first time they've properly said it out loud together.
Visually, it goes all in on the Kobe universe rather than trying to meet it halfway. Black dominates, fading into purple towards the hem, a nod to the colour most tied to Kobe's career, with gold detailing doing the job of hinting at silverware without needing to spell it out. There's a snake skin pattern worked through the design, an iridescent crest that shifts depending on the light, and the Kobe logo sitting on the chest rather than tucked away as an afterthought. It's confident design, and it knows it.
The best bit, though, is hidden. Stitched inside the collar is a Kobe Bryant quote: "Leave the game better than you found it." It's the sort of detail nobody needs to see for the shirt to work, which is exactly why it works. Barcelona and Nike could have put it front and centre for maximum marketing mileage. Instead it sits somewhere only the wearer really knows about, which says more about the mindset behind this collaboration than any billboard ever could.
Performance-wise, it's built for both the men's and women's first teams to actually compete in, not just look good doing the warm up. Nike AeroSwift and Dri-FIT ADV technology handle the heavy lifting, keeping things lightweight and breathable so the shirt holds up under proper match intensity rather than just under stadium lighting.
The campaign around it leans into the same energy, with Aïcha Cámara, Alejandro Balde, Claudia Pina, Ewa Pajor, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Kika, Marc Bernal, Patri Guijarro and Pedri fronting a push built on confidence, determination and ambition rather than the usual highlight reel. It's less "look at this shirt" and more "here's the mentality that earns the right to wear it."
That's ultimately what makes this partnership worth watching beyond just the kit itself. Plenty of clubs bolt a big name onto a shirt for a season and move on. Barcelona and Kobe are building something with actual continuity, a shared idea that gets a little more defined each time they come back to it. Two chapters in, it's already got the makings of one of the more thoughtful crossovers in the game.
Given how deliberately this one's been put together, it won't be staying under the radar for long. Get yours now.
